New Releases for Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Angel y Khriz, "Ayer La Vi"
The latest single from Reggaeton duo Angel y Khriz has finally been released today. After signing with Machete Music, the ever-growing urban Latino audience has embraced this duo as one of the leaders in the Reggaeton genre. Performances at Los Premios Juventud and the Latin Billboard awards have since increased their fame.

Thalia, "Equivocada"
Mexican pop singer Thalia has released her first single from her new live album, Primera Fila.  The album was titled as such because she wanted the listener to feel as if they were in the “primera fila” of the concert. She may have taken some time off to be a mom, but she is back and just as strong!

Artist of the Week: Vallín

Vallín’s recently released solo album has granted it Artist of the Week-worthy. Sergio Vallín, better known as the lead guitarist of Mexican band Maná, has a unique guitar style that is influenced from his experience with classical guitar and Rock & Roll. His hit single, "Solo Tu" featuring Raquel del Rosario, has already debuted at #41 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs.

Spotlight on: Alexis y Fido

Alexis y Fido, a.k.a. Los Pitbulls, are a Latin Grammy nominated Reggaeton duo from Puerto Rico. Their hit single, “El Palo,” gave them the exposure they needed to go against other Reggaeton giants. Latin Music Night at the White House

Latin Music will be heard coming from the White House next Tuesday, in honor of Hispanic heritage. Previously, the White House hosted Jazz and Country music, and is planning a Classical music event in November. The concert will be televised on PBS on Oct. 15, on Telemundo on Oct. 18, and on V-me on Dec. 25.

Noel Schajris – Uno No Es Uno (Sony Music Entertainment Mexico)
Former Sin Bandera member Noel Schajris debuts his solo album entitled Uno No Es Uno. Previously, he joined Luis Fonsi, David Bisbal, and Aleks Syntek in the hit song, “Palabras Del Silencio.”

Los Horoscopos de Durango – Duda (Disa)
One of the longest recording Regional Mexican groups, releases their latest album, Duda.  Los Horoscopos have many accolades under their belt, including winning the award for Billboard Regional Mexican Album of the Year two years in a row. Their original style and talent mark them as one of the icons of the Duranguense wave.

Artist of the Week: David Bisbal

Musica Latina’s new Artist of the Week is Latin Grammy-winning Spanish pop singer, David Bisbal. All three of his studio albums have topped the Billboard Latin charts, in addition to some live albums. His last album, Premonición, was certified as 5 times platinum, with sales of over 400,000 copies in Spain alone.

His fourth studio album, Sin Mirar Atrás (Universal Music Spain), will be released worldwide on October 20, 2009. The first single from the album, "Esclavo de Sus Besos"has already topped the Spanish charts, and has reached #14 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs in just three weeks.

Bisbal won the Latin Grammy award for “Best New Artist” in 2003.

Artist Spotlight: Alexis y Fido

Better known as the Puerto Rican reggaeton duo, “Los Pitbulls,” Alexis y Fido, have proven their reputation as major contenders in the Latin urban music genre. Four years ago, Raul “Alexis” Ortiz and Joel “Fido” Martinez,” launched their careers with the release of the duet’s first album, “The Pitbulls,” which debuted in second position on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers and the Latin Rhythm charts and #4 on the Top Latin Albums chart. The first single, “Eso Ehh!,” remained steady in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart for ten consecutive weeks. The song was featured in an episode of HBO’s critically acclaimed series, ‘The Wire’ and ‘Entourage’.

In 2006, Alexis y Fido released “Los Reyes del Perreo,” an album that includes the smash hit, "Me Quiere Besar." A year later, they launched “Sobrenatural,” which presents 14 original songs and collaborations with Los Yetzons and Erick Right. “Soy Igual Que Tu,” “We Belong Together,” “5 Letras,” and “Somos Tal Para Cual,” captivated audiences and became instant successes, thanks to their infectious sound.

Los Pitbulls’ fourth album, “Down to Earth,” was released on March 2009. It features 14 tracks, including promotional tracks “Ojos Que No Ven” and “Musica Ehh,” and collaborations with urban music heavyweights, Don Omar and Toby Love.  Alexis y Fido are now promoting their new single, “Bartender,” which holds tenth position on Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Airplay chart.

The Latin Recording Academy unrolls its red carpet in preparation for the Latin Grammy Awards

The Latin Recording Academy will reach a milestone this year with the celebration of the 10th Annual Latin Grammy Awards. The ceremony will air live from Las Vegas and feature awards in 49 categories of Spanish and Brazilian music. The highly awaited show promises to present the best performers in Latin music.  This year’s nominations celebrate a unique mix of established and emerging artists including previous Latin Grammy winner duo, Calle 13, who leads the list with five nominations. Ivan Lins & The Metropole Orchestra, Jose Lugo, Jorge Luis Piloto, Ivete Sangalo, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Caetano Veloso, and Wisin y Yandel compete for three awards each, while Ricardo Arjona, Babasonicos, Bebe, Cafe Tacvba, Andres Cepeda, Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Luis Enrique, Luis Fonsi, Sergio George, Saul Hernandez (Jaguares), Laura Pausini, Luz Rios, Marco Antonio Solis, Mercedes Sosa, and Tito "El Bambino" have received two nominations.

To celebrate a decade of success the Latin Grammys will honor Mexican megastar, Juan Gabriel, as Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year, one of the Latin music industry’s most prestigious honors.

According to the Academy, singer/songwriter, Gabriel, who has sold more than 100 million albums, was selected to receive this honor for his professional accomplishments and his commitment to philanthropic efforts. Other special recognitions include the Lifetime Achievement Award, which goes this year to Candido Camero, Beth Carvalho, Charly Garcia, Tania Libertad, Marco Antonio Muñiz, and Juan Romero. Meanwhile, Jose Antonio Abreu and Roberto Cantoral will be honored with the Latin Recording Academy Trustees Award. All of these recognitions will be presented at special ceremonies held on the day preceding the event.

The 10th Annual Latin Grammy ceremony is taking place on Thursday, November 5th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on the Univision Television Network at 8 p.m. Eastern Time/7 p.m. Central Time.

Musica Latina’s Artist of the Week is Grammy Award-winning duo, Wisin & Yandel. Since the beginning of their career, the Puerto Rican rappers distinguished themselves by creating their own brand of Latin Urban Popular music. Marcos Witt

With a career span of 26 years, Christian music superstar and psalmist, Marcos Witt, is recognized as one of the most important voices in the Latin music world. He has sold millions of albums, released 31 CDs, written 10 books and performed before thousands of fans throughout the US and Latin America. He has been honored with a prestigious Ritmo Latino award, two Billboard Latinos and four Latin Grammys. Marcos continues to captivate audiences with the inspirational music of his most recent album, “Sobrenatural,” which was recorded live before an audience of 30,000 people in Bogota, Colombia. Released in both CD and DVD formats, “Sobrenatural” features 15 tracks with a variety of rhythms, including rock, pop, ballad and Latin American folk. Los Premios MTV 2009: Who will get the much desirable MTV Tongue?

The countdown to Los Premios MTV 2009 has already begun and the cable network promises that it will bring down the house! The lineup of A-list artists includes Calle 13’s MC, Rene Perez aka Residente, and international pop superstar, Nelly Furtado, as hosts. The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 15, at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles and will air live on MTV Tr3s.

This year’s ceremony will have a multi-city approach as it features different scenarios, co-hosts and more guests. Host cities for the ceremony include Bogota, Mexico City, Buenos Aires and Los Angeles.

Some of the megastars have already confirmed their participation in the event. Performing his new single, "Looking for Paradise," directly from Bogota, will be Spanish singer/songwriter, Alejandro Sanz, while electro-pop band, Miranda, will do the same from Buenos Aires. Paulina Rubio, Wisin & Yandel, Fall Out Boy, and Cobra Starship will make their appearances in Los Angeles.

Nominees for the Eight Annual Premios MTV, include Wisin & Yandel leading the list with six nominations. Paulina Rubio received five nominations, while Lady Gaga, Zoe, Andres Calamaro, Calle 13, Panda, Fanny Lu, Ximena Sariñana, Jesse & Joy, and Adammo compete for three awards. Britney Spears, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Daddy Yankee, Nelly Furtado, Shakira, Miranda, Kudai, Moderatto, Paty Cantu, and Taylor Swift received two nominations each.

Pacha Massive- “If You Want” (Nacional Records)
New Pacha Massive album “If You Want It” is now available to fans. The album is the follow-up to the group’s debut album, “All Good Things,” which was released in 2008. “If You Want It” features Pacha’s signature funky, bilingual fusion of dub and electronica with Latin rhythms, like cumbia and palo. Tracks include the title track “If You Want It,” as well as “Right Now” and “Just Want To See Ya.”


Magnate y Valentino- “Quimica Perfecta” (Machete Music)
Urban music romantic duet Magnate y Valentino’s new album, “Quimica Perfecta,” is now available to fans worldwide in both digital and physical formats. “Quimica Perfecta,” the third album by the Puerto Rican group, features Magnate y Valentino’s exceptional style fusioning the rhythm of reggaeton with romantic lyrics.  Tracks include first single “Si Te Acuerdas De Mi” as well as “Nobody,” “Si Yo Te Ame” and “Tentacion”.


Vallin- “Bendito Entre Las Mujeres” (Warner Music Latina)
Sergio Vallin, the talented guitarist of multi-platinum Mexican group Mana, has embarked on his first solo project entitled “Bendito Entre Las Mujeres,” which is now available to audiences worldwide. Vallin invited some of the most important Latin female singers to join him, including Ana Torrroja, Rosana, Joy Huerta (Jesse & Joy), Ely Guerra, and Natalia Jimenez (La Quinta Estacion). Artist of the Week - Dareyes de la Sierra

Musica Latina’s Artist of the Week is Norteño band Dareyes de la Sierra (Disa Records/Universal Music Latin Entertainment) and its single, “Sufre,” that currently holds the fourth position on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Songs chart. The song is also number tenth on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs and Musica Latina’s Top Songs charts for this week.


Sufre” is the first promotional track on the band’s hit album, “Una Copa Mas,” that was recently nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards.  Launched on May 26th, “Una Copa Mas,” features ten songs, including “Yo Te Quise Amar,” “Porque Ya Me Canse,” “Sufre,” “Una Copa Mas,” “Estoy Sangrando Tu Amor” and “Llorandote.” 


Originally from Navojoa in Sonora, Mexico, Dareyes de la Sierra was formed by lead singer and bandleader, Darey Castro (accordion), Jose Miguel Enriquez (bass) and Alberto Verdugo Leyva (guitar).


At present, Dareyes de la Sierra is considered to be the most important ‘Sierreño’ style band. Proof of its success and popularity are its multiple nominations to prestigious awards, including a 2009 Billboard Latin Music Award for the Regional Mexican Airplay Song of the Year, Duo or Group, for its smash hit “Hasta El Dia De Hoy.”


Now, Dareyes de la Sierra has won a Latin Grammy nomination for its album “Una Copa Mas” for Best Banda Album. The 10th Annual Latin Grammy ceremony will be held on November 5th in Las Vegas and will be transmitted live by the Univision Network.

Llegó Bebe Y. (punto)

Marco Antonio Solis and Pepe Aguilar Concert Series

Regional Mexican superstars, Marco Antonio Solis and Pepe Aguilar, hit the road together to present his fans with the very best of their respective repertories. The tour, that started early August in Hidalgo, TX, will visit 15 U.S. cities, including Alburquerque, El Paso, Miami, New York, Las Vegas, Fresno, Chula Vista and San Jose, among others. New Ringtones Available at Musica Latina

This week, Puerto Rican singer/songwriter, Luis Fonsi, released the ringtones, “Si Tu Quisieras”, “No Te Cambio Por Ninguna” and “Me Ire”, on www.musicalatina.com. Pitbull Is Back With “Rebelution”

Better known as Mr. 305, Miami rapper Pitbull is set to release his new album, “Rebelution,” on September 1st, under his own label, Mr.305 (RCA Music Group). “Free Tempo” is finally here

After years of speculation, Puerto Rican rapper Tempo’s album is finally out. Free Tempo,” which is also the name of the advocacy campaign that seeks to release him from a federal prison, was released on June 30th and is distributed by Sony Music Norte. The album is a real treat for old school fans, who enjoy the underground movement. The album features artists like Wisin & Yandel, Daddy Yankee and underground iconic rapper Mexicano.

El Patron is all about Love

Tito El Bambino, continues to rule with his album El Patron(Siente Music). The album, which has already obtained a Gold certification for sales more than 50,000 copies, holds sixth position on the Top Latin Albums chart. Smash hit “El Amor” is still very popular on the Billboard Latin Music charts. This week the song appears #5 on the Hot Latin Songs chart, #3 on the Latin Pop Songs chart and #5 on the Tropical Songs chart. With “El Patron”, Tito El Bambino has demonstrated why he is the real boss and that his music and talent go beyond genres and styles.

Beware of "la Loba"

The one and only Shakira is back with her new single, La Loba/She Wolf (Sony Music), which promises to become the late summer’s dance anthem. The song has already jumped to second position on both Hot Latin Songs and Latin Pop Songs charts. Shakira is in Paris giving the final touches to her upcoming album and while fans wait anxiously for what the Barranquillera will come up with, they can follow her on Twitter and other social media platforms.

Espinoza Paz claims he's not a singer, but he tries and he is doing very well

Although award-winning songwriter Espinoza Paz claims he's not a singer, fans across the U.S. believe otherwise. His latest album, Yo no canto pero lo intentamos (UMG Recordings), has taken Latin music charts by storm since its release on May 19, 2009. Currently, the album holds fifth position on the Top Latin Albums chart and third on the Regional Mexican Albums chart. Meanwhile, the first single “Lo intentamos” is the #1 song on the Hot Latin Songs and the Regional Mexican Songs charts. Not bad for someone who claims he’s not a singer!

Great comeback for Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique is back at the top of the charts with his latest album Ciclos (Top Stop Music). The first single, “Yo no se mañana”, (Jorge Luis Piloto and Jorge Villamizar) has become a smash hit, topping the Billboard Tropical music chart and rapidly escalating up the Hot Latin Songs chart. His strong album sales demonstrate that Luis Enrique is here to stay. This week, the album holds third position in the Tropical Albums chart and also holds 20th position in the Top Latin Album chart.
